Before coming to France
Once in France (depending on visas received)
All non-European students need a visa to study in France
Before coming to France
Visa applications must be submitted either via the Campus France website (if your country is part of the Campus France / Etudes en France procedure) or directly to the nearest French consulate (see the Campus France website). For students who do not reside in their country of origin, visa applications must be submitted to the French consulate in the country of residence.
Once in France, and depending on the visa you have received
- Visa ” Etudiant CESEDA R311-3 6 ° ” also known as VLS-TS (valid for 3 months before extension): this type of visa is issued to students who come for an academic year, and sometimes for a semester: compulsory procedures once in France to obtain an extension (with the help of the school’s International Office): payment of the official fee (€60 in 2017/18) and interview with OFII, Office Français de l’Immigration, in Troyes. With this type of visa, you can apply for CAF housing benefit and work in France (60% of legal hours).
- Visa ” Long séjour temporaire ” ” Dispense temporaire de carte de séjour ” also known as VLS-T: this type of visa is generally issued to students staying for a semester. There are no special procedures to follow once in France, but students are not entitled to claim housing benefit from the CAF and are not authorized to work.
